MELAKA – A total of 1,200 used pallets weighing 26 tonnes, collected from factories in the state, have been transformed into 301 units of furniture in two days, setting a new entry in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).
Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp) Deputy Chief Executive Director (Management) Syahrul Nizam Saleh said the achievement was the first record of its kind involving the production of furniture from used pallets.
He said 300 volunteers made up of industry players, training centres and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) participants in the woodworking field from across Malaysia camped out for two days to complete all the pieces.
"The pallets weighed about 26 tonnes in total and for the wood waste category, this is the first record we have set," he told a press conference in conjunction with National Landscape Day 2026 at the grounds of Stadium Hang Jebat here today.
He added that all 301 furniture units produced would be sold to visitors tomorrow, giving the public an opportunity to own products made from the used pallets.
