Three policemen die in suspected electrocution in Beaufort; PM orders full probe

PETALING JAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his condolences to the families of three Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel who died in a suspected electrocution in Beaufort, Sabah, today.

Anwar said he had instructed that an investigation be carried out thoroughly, transparently and immediately to identify the cause of the tragedy.

He added that improvement measures must also be taken to ensure such an incident is not repeated in future.

“It is with sadness that I received news of the passing of three PDRM personnel in a tragedy believed to involve electrocution in Beaufort, Sabah today.

“I have asked that the investigation be conducted thoroughly, transparently and immediately to identify the cause of this tragic incident. Improvement measures must be taken so that a tragedy like this does not recur,” he said in a Facebook post today. (Translated from Malay.)

In the same post, Anwar said their service and sacrifice in preserving the country's peace and security would always be remembered.

Incident at Jalan Weston

Earlier, media reported that the three policemen were believed to have been electrocuted in an incident at Jalan Weston, Kampung Weston, Beaufort at about 5.56pm.

All three victims, who were personnel of the Weston police station, were confirmed dead at the scene.

The victims, aged between 26 and 40, comprised two corporals and a lance corporal.
