KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Rashdan Baba, 57, says he follows a routine taught by his late father — a glass of warm water before bed and another right after waking up — to keep his body from showing its age.

He said the practice was among the most effective ways to keep the body highly hydrated.

"My late father taught me to drink a glass of warm water before sleeping, then another in the morning before brushing my teeth. That has been my habit for a long time," he said.

"And I make sure I drink enough water, roughly more than eight litres throughout the day, and it must be warm water. If the body lacks water, wrinkles appear. Because the body is 90 per cent water," he added. (Quotes translated from Malay.)

Rashdan was speaking at the contestant introduction session for Kilauan Emas Selebriti at Astro Bukit Jalil recently.

He also said he takes supplements approved by the Health Ministry (KKM) to maintain his physical fitness.

"Maybe I inherited my late father's habit of taking supplements for health. His supplements practically filled the whole table, like a pharmacy. Whenever he heard of a good supplement, he would buy it," he said.

"There may be truth to it because studies show that once a person reaches 40 and above, they should take supplements and drink enough water."

Rashdan, however, denied being overly strict about his face and body, saying he still takes sugary drinks — but only in minimal amounts.

"I do drink teh tarik, sirap, iced Milo and all sorts of flavoured drinks, but only half a cup. Sometimes I don't even finish it, just enough to get the taste," he shared.

Asked about his diet, Rashdan said he eats in moderation, in line with his age.

"On food, I practise what the Prophet Muhammad encouraged — eat before you are hungry, stop before you are full.

"All the food we eat will eventually become poison to the body. So imagine what is in your stomach. Eat in moderation," he said.
