KUALA LUMPUR – Actor Azhan Rani says he is saddened that several dramas he filmed alongside the late Kamarool Yusoff, 68, have yet to be screened.
Azhan, whose full name is Azhan Abdul Rani, 50, said he had worked with the veteran actor — affectionately known as Cik Man — on several drama projects, as well as a film still at the planning stage.
"I am really sad and shocked because several dramas we acted in together have not been screened yet.
"Most were filmed in Kelantan and in one of the dramas, he played my father.
"We were supposed to work together again this September in a film scheduled to be shot in Kelantan," he said.
Azhan was speaking when met at the cast introduction and poster launch of his latest film, Chelot, at Bungalow 37 here today.
He said the last time he met the late actor was a few months ago, when both were on separate shoots in Terengganu.
"I had just met him during the filming of Bulan Henti Bicara in Terengganu. We happened to be staying at the same place because he was shooting a telemovie at the time.
"That night we managed to chat. But his passing was very shocking because he never showed any sign of a prolonged illness.
"When we met, I joked and told him, 'Cik Man, cut down on the smoking,' because I knew he was a heavy smoker," he said.
On the late actor's character, Azhan said Cik Man always lifted the mood on set and often reminded fellow artistes not to expose the faults of others, given how small the local entertainment industry is.
"I don't remember all his advice, but one thing that has stayed with me is his reminder that those of us in this industry should not talk about other people's shortcomings.
"He said we must look after ourselves, because whatever bad things we say about others could one day come back to us.
"That is one of the messages I remember most, even though he said it in the Kelantan dialect in a very casual way," he said.
Kamarool was earlier reported to have died of a blocked heart artery at Hospital Tanah Merah, Kelantan, at 5.15pm yesterday.
His remains were buried at the Kampung Gual Muslim Cemetery in Petai Lima, Tanah Merah, at 11.50am today.
