BAGAN DATUK – A foul smell detected by a cleaning worker led to the discovery of a man's body in a drain at Kilometre 155.7 of the West Coast Expressway (WCE), southbound, here yesterday.

Bagan Datuk district police chief Superintendent Mohammad Ali Mohd Jali said police received information on the incident at 3.39pm before a team was rushed to the location.

He said initial investigations found that the accident involving the victim came to light after a cleaning worker carrying out grass-cutting work smelled a stench and then found human remains together with a motorcycle in the drain.

"We believe the victim, who was riding a motorcycle alone from the direction of Teluk Intan heading to Sabak Bernam, skidded onto the left shoulder of the road before falling into the drain.

"The victim is believed not to have received any assistance until the incident was noticed. Also found with the victim were personal belongings including a mobile phone, a Malaysian passport and cash believed to be his," he said here today.

He said further checks also found that a missing person report had been lodged by the victim's family members at the Teluk Intan police station yesterday.

"The human remains found are believed to belong to a 35-year-old man who was reported missing since July 29.

"Further investigations are being carried out to identify the cause of the incident and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
