Ex-PH candidate for Rantau charged over unregistered clinic

SEREMBAN – Former Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Rantau state seat, Dr Azizul Hakim Mahdi, and Noor Ameeraa Rahmat, both aged 35, have been charged with providing an unregistered private medical clinic.
Both entered their plea before judge Shahrul Rizal Majid after the charges were read out, Sinar Harian reported.
The offence was allegedly committed at about 11.30am on July 8 at a clinic located in Taman Bandar Senawang.
According to the charge, the two, as company directors, jointly provided a private medical clinic without registration under Section 27 of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 (Act 586).
The act allegedly contravened Section 4(1) of Act 586 and constitutes an offence under Section 5(2)(a) of the same law, punishable under Section 5(2)(aa) read together with Section 34.
If convicted, they face a fine of up to RM300,000 or up to six years' jail, or both.
In addition, their company was found to have provided a private medical clinic without registration under Section 27 of Act 586.
The second charge was framed under Section 5(1) of Act 586, punishable under Section 5(1)(b) of the same law, which provides for a fine of not more than RM500,000 upon conviction.
The court set Sept 17 for mention of the case.
Health ministry prosecuting officer Haslina Zamani appeared for the prosecution, while the accused were represented by lawyer Muhammad Abdul Fateh Mohd Rahmat.
