JAKARTA – Villagers in Tangerang, Banten province, were stunned to find a crocodile incubating 40 eggs along a riverbank, news portal Lambe Turah reported.

The discovery was made in the Cimanceuri River near Desa Budi Mulya yesterday.

According to the report, the capture followed repeated sightings of the reptile roaming the river area, which had heightened concerns among residents over their safety.

They were surprised to find about 40 eggs, all still unhatched, at the spot where the animal was caught.

"The eggs show that the crocodile caught was a mother and had made the Cimanceuri River area its nest," a local resident said, according to the report. (Translated from Malay.)

Video footage uploaded to TikTok by the account @rakyatigaraksa showed the crocodile with its snout and legs bound before it was killed.

The report did not state whether wildlife authorities had been informed of the incident, nor what became of the eggs found at the nest. – AGENCIES
