DAP leader calls Hadi's brand of politics 'very dangerous'

A DAP leader has rejected PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's claim that the party is leading Pakatan Harapan (PH) in continuing the work of colonialists to eliminate Malays and Islam.

DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) member Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali described the Marang MP's approach to politics as very dangerous.

"Abdul Hadi Awang's way of doing politics is very dangerous. It is like taking on God's work," he said in a statement today responding to the latest instalment of the PAS president's "Minda Presiden" column.

In the piece, Hadi claimed among other things that a DAP-dominated PH had taken open steps to continue a colonial agenda aimed at removing Islam and the Malays.

He also claimed that DAP prioritised English in order to sideline Malay, the lingua franca of the plural society in Tanah Melayu, and that it fielded Muslim candidates in Malay areas while championing secularism.

Sheikh Umar, who is also a senator, stressed that DAP supports the Federal Constitution and operates within constitutional bounds.

"The constitution has clearly upheld the position of Islam.

"If DAP rejected Islam, DAP would certainly be banned for rejecting what is enshrined in the constitution. Hadi Awang's statement is merely political games," he said.

He added: "But that is how it is — to me, Abdul Hadi Awang is a 'religious judge', not a preacher."
