AMPANG JAYA – A man's attempt to break into a house along Jalan N3, Taman Melawati was foiled yesterday after the resident of the home noticed what he was doing.
In the incident at about 11.30am, the resident, who was upstairs at the time, was alerted by the sound of the security alarm and went downstairs to check.
Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid said the resident then found an unidentified man attempting to pry open a padlock on a door at the side of the house.
"The suspect fled after the resident screamed for help," he said in a statement today.
He said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed the suspect was believed to be a man wearing a blue hoodie and a face mask.
"The suspect was seen entering the compound by climbing over the fence before fleeing in a purple Perodua Myvi bearing fake registration plates," he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for house trespass.
