Lenggeng assemblyman Asna has described claims of instability in the Negeri Sembilan government as part of an attempt by certain quarters to create a negative perception and to pit Barisan Nasional (BN) against Perikatan Nasional (PN).
He said the understanding between the two coalitions remained solid and did not involve any tussle over the menteri besar post or over quotas for state executive council (exco) seats.
Asna explained that the cooperation was not a formal political coalition but was based on a clear understanding that BN would lead the state government, including proposing the menteri besar candidate.
"PN does not interfere in the selection of the menteri besar and leaves the matter entirely to BN.
"There has also been no discussion or demand over the number of exco posts to be given to PN. Whatever BN decides and offers will be accepted.
"The claims of government instability are believed to be part of an effort by certain quarters to shape a negative perception and to pit BN and PN against each other," he said in a statement.
BN and PN formed the Negeri Sembilan government after winning 25 seats in Saturday's state election, ending Pakatan Harapan's (PH) administration since 2018. Juasseh assemblyman Ismail Lassim has been sworn in as menteri besar.
Bigger team to deliver manifesto
Commenting on the possible creation of deputy exco posts, Asna rejected the notion that the move was meant to multiply political positions or that it reflected weakness in the government.
Instead, he said the government needed a bigger, efficient and capable team to deliver a manifesto that set high targets, including creating tens of thousands of job opportunities for young people.
"If we want to build a 10-storey building, perhaps 10 people are enough. But if we want to build a 100-storey building, of course we need a bigger team.
"It is the same in the corporate world. If our target is RM100 million, we cannot expect too small a team to achieve it.
"We need more competent individuals who are able to carry out their responsibilities," he said.
