DBKL demolishes two illegal shop structures in Segambut

KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has demolished two unapproved structures used as a grocery shop and a barber shop operated by foreigners along Lorong Segambut Dalam here.
The integrated operation was carried out with the cooperation of the Immigration Department (JIM), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd and Telekom Malaysia Berhad.
DBKL said the enforcement action was taken after the owner failed to comply with two enforcement notices to vacate the site over the construction of permanent extension structures without permission on a road reserve and the lane beside the building.
"The notices were issued on July 29 and July 31 for offences under Section 69 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.
"The operation to demolish the two structures was carried out after the premises owner failed to comply with the instructions given," it said in a statement.
DBKL said the demolition and clean-up works proceeded smoothly after all goods and business equipment were removed by the premises owner.
Water and electricity supply to the premises were also cut in line with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by DBKL, Air Selangor and TNB.
City Hall also seized and moved live chickens and live fish to the store of the Pest Control Unit under its Health and Environment Department for documentation purposes.
Meanwhile, JIM detained five foreign workers for further action on suspicion of offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).
DBKL said it would continue enforcement action and monitoring from time to time to ensure compliance with prevailing laws and regulations.
