PETALING JAYA – Police rescued two kidnap victims found blindfolded and handcuffed during a raid on a house in Taman Amira, Telaga Bata, Alor Setar, Kedah, yesterday.
The operation, carried out at about 8.40pm, turned tense when the suspects opened fire on a team from the Special Investigation Division (D9) of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
CID director Datuk M. Kumar said the raiding team returned fire in self-defence until there was no longer any threat to safety.
"Two suspects believed to be foreigners were pronounced dead by the medical team at about 9.30pm, and no identification documents were found on them.
"Police recovered two Baretta semi-automatic pistols containing five bullets and a revolver containing four bullets, as well as a long machete near the suspects," he said in a statement today. (Translated from Malay.)

Kumar said the operation saved two kidnap victims — a foreign man and woman in their 70s and 30s respectively.
Police subsequently launched several separate raids and arrested six people: a local man, four foreign men and a foreign woman, aged between their 20s and 40s.
"All the arrests were made around Kedah, Penang and Kuala Lumpur. The case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for abduction for ransom.
"Remand applications for all the suspects will be made today under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961," he said.
Kumar stressed that the case remains under investigation and urged the public not to speculate or make comments that could interfere with the process.
"A press conference on this incident will be held next Monday," he added.
