Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Ismail Lasim has appointed 10 exco members to his cabinet, the majority of them from Umno.

Based on Malaysiakini's count, the 11-member state cabinet comprises eight Umno assemblypersons, and one each from MCA, PAS and Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan).

The tally includes Ismail himself who, besides being Menteri Besar, holds three portfolios: Islamic affairs and security; finance, land and natural resources; and investment, infrastructure, utilities, communications and Felda.

The remaining 10 were sworn in before the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, at Istana Besar Seri Menanti today, Bernama reported.

Ismail took his oath of office on Aug 2, a day after the Negeri Sembilan state election, in which Umno won 16 of the 32 seats, PAS four, Wawasan three and MCA two.

Among those left out of the state cabinet is Pertang assemblyperson Jalaluddin Alias. The state BN chairperson was said to be among three names proposed by BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to Tuanku Muhriz for the post of menteri besar.

Jalaluddin had previously been vocal in blaming Pakatan Harapan for the continuing crisis involving the royal institution and the state rulers.

On April 27, he led 12 other Umno assemblypersons, including Ismail, at a press conference announcing the withdrawal of their support for Aminuddin's leadership. The resulting political turmoil led to the dissolution of the state assembly and paved the way for the election.

The new state cabinet:

  • Ismail Lasim (Umno) – Menteri Besar; Islamic Affairs & Security; Finance, Land & Natural Resources; Investment, Infrastructure, Utilities, Communications & Felda
  • Faizal Ramli (Umno) – Rural & Regional Development
  • Zaifulbahri Idris (Umno) – Education, Higher Education & Human Capital
  • Mustapha Nagoor (Umno) – Youth and Sports Development
  • Siow Kong Choon (MCA) – Local Government Development, Housing & Non-Muslim Affairs
  • Siti Nur Umaira Hasim (Umno) – Women, Family & Community Development
  • Asna Amin (Umno) – Industry, Technology, Innovation & Digital
  • Razi Mohd Ali (Umno) – Agriculture, Food Security & Cost of Living
  • Suhaimizan Bizar (Umno) – Health, Unity, Information, National Integration & NGOs
  • Fairuz Mohd Isa (PAS) – Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives & Consumerism
  • Razali Abu Samah (Wawasan) – Tourism, Arts, Culture & Heritage
