Hamzah: All sides must give and take to sustain the 'blue wave'
Party presidents from both coalitions must sit down together to discuss seat allocation ahead of the Melaka state election, he says.
All parties must be willing to give and take if they genuinely want to join forces and sustain the "blue wave" that began in Johor, Hamzah said.
He said the presidents of the parties in the two coalitions needed to sit at the same table to discuss seat distribution.
"However, if we really want to work together and continue the 'blue wave' that started in Johor, then all sides must have a spirit of give and take.
"The party presidents need to sit down together to discuss the seat allocation," he told a press conference after Wawasan's extraordinary general meeting (EGM).
He was responding to a statement by Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday, who said the coalition intended to defend all 21 state seats it currently holds in the coming Melaka state election.
Zahid also said BN was open to an understanding with any party, including Perikatan Nasional, as had been done in Negeri Sembilan.
No date yet for formal talks
Hamzah said no date had been fixed for formal negotiations so far, but all sides had to look at the bigger interest — not only Melaka, but also other states heading into elections.
"The bigger agenda is the interest of the people. We do not want a situation where, after campaigning with all sorts of promises, the approach changes once we have won and are in power," he said.
Eyeing Bemban and Sungai Udang
Hamzah said his party intended to contest Bemban and Sungai Udang in the Melaka polls, after claiming that the two incumbents had expressed support for Wawasan.
He said he wanted those assemblymen to be given the chance to contest and defend their respective seats.
Open to new members
Separately, Hamzah said Wawasan was open to accepting anyone, including leaders from other parties, as long as they could contribute to the party's strength.
He was asked about the resignation of Bersatu Terengganu chief Razali Idris.
"We have announced that anyone is welcome to join Wawasan. If there are those who want to join the party and can contribute to its strength, we will accept them," he said.
