Mother says daughter distressed after obscene posters spread in schools

BUKIT MERTAJAM – A woman claims her daughter is living under severe stress after her face, name, class and phone number were circulated in obscene posters and through fake social media accounts since April.
The woman, who wanted to be known only as Nur, 46, said the incidents initially occurred at her daughter's school in the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) district before allegedly spreading to another school in the same district when the posters were found in a student's motorcycle basket.
"We only found out that the poster had spread to another school since yesterday, after my daughter received a message from an individual asking for obscene videos as claimed in the poster.
"As a mother, I am worried about my child's safety and emotions. At first it only happened within the school compound, but now it has spread outside the school," she said when met in Seberang Jaya today. (Quotes translated from Malay.)
Nur said her daughter, who is due to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination this year, is under emotional strain, often crying and feeling too ashamed to go to school after her face was used to produce humiliating material.
She said three police reports had been lodged — in April, in June and the latest yesterday — but there had been no satisfactory progress in the investigation.
Besides the police reports, Nur said she and her husband also lodged a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today after detecting several fake social media accounts using her daughter's face and edited images to shame her.
"I cannot confirm the suspect's real motive, but it may be jealousy among friends because my daughter is a part-time model, or someone had feelings for her that were not reciprocated.
"Whatever it is, I want this to stop and for them to stop disturbing my daughter. She is an SPM candidate and I do not want her future and emotions affected by such irresponsible acts," she said.
Nur also hoped the Education Ministry would investigate the matter.
