Mother pleads for end to alleged sexual bullying of SPM candidate daughter

SEBERANG PERAI – A mother has appealed for an end to what she describes as sexual bullying and cyber harassment of her daughter, a Form Five student sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, after alleged incidents recurred since April.

"I am begging, please stop the sexual bullying of my daughter. Do not disturb her anymore, she is already under enough stress," she told reporters here today.

The housewife, 46, who wanted to be known only as Nur, said her second of three children has become increasingly distressed after photographs of her face were allegedly edited using artificial intelligence (AI) technology and then circulated through posters at school, in public places and on social media.

She claimed the harassment was not new and had happened three times. The latest was yesterday afternoon, when a poster containing her daughter's photo and personal details was placed in a student's motorcycle basket at a school in the Seberang Perai Tengah area.

"We found out immediately after receiving a message from an unknown individual who shared my daughter's picture and also asked her to send pornographic videos," she said.

The two earlier incidents allegedly took place on school grounds, where posters showing her daughter's face alongside edited obscene images were pasted at several locations including the canteen, notice board and the door of the teachers' meeting room.

"My daughter is an SPM candidate. She is ashamed, she cries and suffers emotional stress to the point that at times she does not want to leave the house or go to school anymore because she is so affected," she said.

Nur said the situation had also deeply affected her and her husband, who constantly worry about their daughter's safety and health.

"As parents we can only encourage her to stay strong, but we are worried the stress will affect her mental health and her future.

"To the perpetrator, I know it may be you, someone who knows my daughter closely. Enough… do not do this to my daughter," she said.

She said her instinct as a mother suggested the motive could be rejected affection or jealousy among peers, as her daughter works as a part-time model.

The family has lodged three police reports and filed a complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over fake social media accounts using her daughter's name and photos.

"I hope the police will speed up the investigation and take firm action against those responsible. I also hope the Education Ministry and the State Education Department will intervene because this is no longer ordinary bullying, but sexual and mental bullying," she said.
