Single mother, salesperson plead not guilty to false Socso claim documents

IPOH – A single mother and a salesperson pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here today to 16 charges each of submitting false documents for incentive claims under the Social Security Organisation's (Socso) Daya Kerjaya 2.0 programme two years ago.
The accused, Shareen Noordin David Noordin, 53, and Neoh Wooi Lee, 50, entered their pleas after all the charges were read before Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad.
According to the charges, both face seven counts of submitting Daya Kerjaya 2.0 employee verification forms to a Socso agent in the name of Century Super Solution for incentive claims under the programme, while as principals having an interest in and reason to believe that the forms contained false statements intended to mislead the agent.
The offences were allegedly committed at a company premises in Lorong Chengal, Taman Sunlight, Ipoh, in the Kinta district, between May 26 and Aug 26, 2024.
The charges were framed under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 (Act 694), read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, and punishable under Section 24(2) of the same Act.
The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the sum or value of the false or erroneous particulars if it can be valued or is in money form, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Shareen Noordin was also charged under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 with nine counts of the same offence involving a Socso agent in the name of SN Super Clean Solution at the same address, between March 31 and Sept 4, 2024.
In the same proceedings, Wooi Lee was charged with abetting Shareen Noordin in similar offences at SN Super Clean Solution over the same period, under Section 28(1)(c) of the MACC Act 2009 read with Section 18 of the same Act.
MACC prosecuting officer G. Nanthini handled the prosecution, while Wooi Lee was represented by lawyer Sheshalini Ramesh.
The prosecution offered bail of RM4,000 for each accused for each charge and asked the court to require them to report to the MACC office once a month.
Sheshalini sought minimum bail, saying her client earns RM2,500 a month as a salesperson, supports a child studying at university and suffers from kidney disease.
Shareen Noordin, who was unrepresented, also appealed for minimum bail, saying she has no fixed income, suffers from a nerve ailment and diabetes, and cares for a grandchild who is a person with disabilities.
The court allowed both accused bail of RM8,000 each with one surety, and set Sept 10 for mention.
