ANKARA – Ozlem Karapinar has made history as the first woman to hold the rank of general in the Turkish Air Force after being promoted to Brigadier General.

The promotion was decided at this week's meeting of Turkiye's Supreme Military Council (YAS), as part of a major reshuffle of the country's military leadership.

The meeting was chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.

Effective Aug 30, the council also approved the promotion of 25 generals and admirals to higher ranks, and elevated 69 colonels to the ranks of general and admiral.
