JAKARTA – A married couple in Demak, Central Java, Indonesia, were shocked to discover a king cobra incubating 25 eggs beneath their house, news portal Detik reported.

Demak Fire and Rescue chief Endra Toga Perdana said his team rushed to the scene after receiving a call at about 12.35pm local time about the appearance of the reptile.

"We were told by the wife that there was a snake under the kitchen. After checking, we found a hole and poured petrol into it to force it out," he said.

"Further inspection led to the discovery of a snake nest under the floor of the house. After pouring the petrol, five young snakes came out of the hole," Endra added.

Besides the hatchlings, the rescue team also found 25 eggs and an adult snake at the same spot.

The removal operation ended at about 2pm local time, with all the reptiles taken to the Karangawen fire post. – AGENCIES
