KAMPAR – A 51-year-old man has been detained to assist investigations into alleged physical abuse and sexual harassment of his two biological children.
Kampar district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Nazri Daud said the investigation was launched after police received information from a school, following a disclosure made by a student to a counselling teacher about incidents said to have taken place at the family home.
"Following further interviews, another victim, who is the older brother of the victim, is also believed to have been subjected to the same acts," he told reporters here today.
The case is being investigated under Section 377C of the Penal Code and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Mohamad Nazri said the suspect was arrested the day before yesterday, and police also seized an electronic device belonging to him for forensic analysis. A remand application has been made to allow for a more detailed investigation.
"Both victims have been referred to hospital for medical examination and are receiving appropriate protection and assistance in cooperation with the Social Welfare Department (JKM)," he said.
"The Royal Malaysia Police view any form of abuse and sexual exploitation of children seriously and will take firm action in accordance with the law."
He said investigations were continuing, and urged the public not to speculate or spread information that could reveal the identities of the victims or jeopardise the investigation.
No charges have been filed at this stage, and the allegations remain under police investigation.
