Mikayla sole female rider to fly Malaysian flag in China

PETALING JAYA: Young national rider Wan Adra Mikayla Wan Mohd Muzri has been named the only female rider carrying Malaysia's challenge to the Ohvale Guangzhou Supercup 2026 in China from Aug 17 to 23.

The selection is recognition of her strong showing throughout the SIC Ohvale Championship 2026.

M8 Racing Team manager Nik Azma Nik Day said Mikayla was picked on merit and for her consistent performances this season, having stayed among the front-runners and frequently finishing on the podium.

"Mikayla's selection was not made merely to complete Malaysia's participation. She was chosen on merit after showing potential and consistent performances by always being on the podium in the SIC Ohvale Championship 2026," he said.

"What makes it prouder is that Mikayla is the only female rider selected to represent Malaysia. This is a big chance for her to prove her ability on the international stage and carry the country's name."

The championship is expected to gather about 120 young riders from 30 countries at the Guangzhou Conghua International Circuit, known as one of the best young-talent development tracks in Asia.

Training hurdles

Nik Azma said her journey has not been easy, with difficulties securing suitable training venues and the high cost of training at main circuits.

"One of Mikayla's biggest challenges was finding a place to train. The cost of training at main circuits is also quite high and that became something of an obstacle for her to get enough training time," he said.

"With the support of APDcrew Circuit, Mikayla now has a place to train and it has helped greatly in her preparations."

He thanked APDcrew Circuit, Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporation (MBI) for channelling financial assistance, as well as Terengganuku Comey and the Terengganu state government, which sponsored Team 4 Racing in several development programmes and races in Malaysia.

Mikayla is also being guided by Azlan, better known as Lan Jawa, the father of national racing sensation Qabil Irfan, who made his name in the FIM MiniGP World Series.

Nik Azma hoped more parties would come forward to help, given the high cost of international participation.

"Every form of sponsorship is meaningful because this is not just about one rider, but an effort to bring Malaysia's name to the international stage," he said, inviting interested parties to contact M8 Racing Team.
