Factory operator killed while helping road crash victim in Arau

ARAU – A 39-year-old factory operator was killed after being knocked down while trying to help a road accident victim along Jalan Kuala Perlis-Changloon near Sungai Chempa here today.
Arau district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said police received a call from the Arau district police headquarters (IPD) operations room at 7.25am regarding the accident, which involved a Honda City and a Perodua Axia.
Initial investigations found that the 36-year-old Honda City driver was travelling from Arau along Jalan Kuala Perlis-Changloon heading towards Ulu Pauh.
"On reaching the scene, the driver hit a puddle of water on the road, causing the car to skid to the left and crash into a tree," he said here today.
Ahmad Mohsin said a factory operator then stopped to help those involved in the crash, but at the same time a Perodua Axia skidded to the left of the road and hit both of them.
He said the impact flung the factory operator into a drain on the left side of the road heading towards Changloon, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The 35-year-old Perodua Axia driver suffered broken ribs while the Honda City driver sustained a broken leg and ribs. Both were taken to Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) for further treatment," he said.
The body of the deceased was sent to the HTF forensic unit for a post-mortem at 3pm.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – UTUSAN
