'People call me crazy, but I'll keep texting my late son's number' – Amyza Aznan

KUALA LUMPUR – To ease the longing she still carries, actress Amyza Aznan continues to send text messages to the mobile phone number of her late son, Andre Mikhail Khairil Izhar, to this day.

Amyza, 50, said she would keep doing so for as long as Andre's number remains active, even though her eldest child died five months ago from stage three lung cancer.

"Until now I still send messages to his mobile number. Andre's number is still active.

"I don't mind, and I will keep messaging him even if it only shows one 'tick'. Because I know that even with two 'ticks', no one will answer.

"But I'm fine with it. As long as I message him, that is my way of expressing my longing. Every day I send the message 'Assalamualaikum anak' and call Andre's name," she told Kosmo! Online, her voice breaking.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference for the Kilauan Emas programme, she said her disclosure had drawn a wide range of responses from netizens who admitted doing the same thing.

"Actually I'm not the only one who does this. When I shared about it on social media, many commented and told me they do the same.

"Some still send messages to their husband's, mother's or child's number to this day. Anyone who has lost someone would surely do the same," she said.

She also said she did not mind being accused of being unstable for still messaging her late son.

"That alone is a cure for the longing. Even though I know there will be no reply, it's all right.

"I don't mind what people say, whether they accuse me of being crazy or of not moving on," she said.

Earlier, a video showing Amyza – also a contestant in Kilauan Emas Selebriti 2026 – calling Andre's number went viral, drawing an outpouring of sympathy on social media.
