NEW DELHI – An eatery owner was seriously injured after being stabbed by his worker during a dispute over wage payment in Mukherjee Nagar, northwest Delhi, on Monday.
Police said the victim, Somnath, 45, was stabbed in the face and chest with a kitchen knife by his employee, Vikas, who then fled the scene.
Somnath owns an eatery in Dhaka Village, while Vikas hails from Sidharth Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akanksha Yadav said police received information about a fight at an eatery, and investigations found the incident stemmed from a dispute over wages.
The suspect had reportedly worked at the eatery for nearly two months.
In his statement to police, the victim claimed he had already paid Vikas his wages. However, the worker again demanded payment on Monday.
"During the argument, Vikas allegedly picked up a vegetable-cutting knife and attacked Somnath, causing injuries to his face and chest," Yadav said.
"The case has been registered under Sections 118 and 126 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, and wrongful restraint. Further investigations are ongoing," she added.
