Razali's exit signals Terengganu Bersatu's decline, says MP

KUALA TERENGGANU — Hulu Terengganu MP Rosol Wahid said Razali's decision to step down as Terengganu Bersatu chief reflects the party's decline, Sinar Harian reported.

Rosol, who was among several party leaders suspended by Bersatu in May, said he agreed with the decision, which came after Razali had led the state chapter for a decade.

He said Bersatu appeared to be in decline, particularly after its poor performance in the recent Negeri Sembilan state election, where it lost all 24 seats it contested.

Razali, he added, had made the right decision by stepping down before the party's situation deteriorated further.

"I believe Terengganu Bersatu will cease to exist soon. At this point, I do not see a suitable successor who can continue leading the party's efforts in Terengganu.

"Bersatu no longer has any significance. People will question why they should remain in the party. Previously, people joined Bersatu because it led the federal government and had a prime minister, but the situation now is very different," he said.

Rosol, whose Bersatu membership has been suspended for two terms, said the party had required branch meetings to be held from July 1 until the end of August, but these had yet to take place.

"The failure to hold these meetings at the grassroots level reflects the weakness of the party's organisation and raises questions about Bersatu's direction in Terengganu, especially following Razali's resignation," he said.

Razali, who is also a state executive councillor, has declined to comment further on the reasons behind his decision.

Apart from Razali, Telemong assemblyman Zawawi Ismail and Hulu Besut assemblyman Husaimi Hussin have also announced their resignations as Terengganu Bersatu information chief and treasurer, respectively.

Utusan Malaysia reported that state Bersatu deputy chairman Khazan Che Mat, who is also the Seberang Takir assemblyman, will step down from his post as well.
