PETALING JAYA – The owner of a pet dog named Rocky, Rohini Devi, hopes the investigation into the animal's death will be carried out transparently so the real cause can be established and justice given to her family.
Rohini said she was leaving the investigation entirely to the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and chose not to comment outside the investigation process.
"I don't want to go here and there. I am waiting for the DVS report. When the report comes out, I hope justice can be given to Rocky," she said at a "Justice for Rocky" press conference at Rogue@Bukit Gasing, Petaling Jaya today.
Recounting the incident, Rohini said she returned home after members of the public informed her that Rocky had been caught.
Upon arriving at the location, she said, she found her pet being noosed and tried to get the animal back.
She said she repeatedly told those present that Rocky had an owner and that she was willing to hand the dog over to the authorities.
"I said if they wanted to take Rocky, I could bring him myself. I admit Rocky had no licence, but I pleaded many times for them to release the noose," she said.
Rohini claimed her pleas were ignored, and that she also tried to cut the noose after asking her child to fetch a pair of scissors and later using a knife, but failed because the rope was too tough.
According to Rohini, officers from the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) arrived at the scene several minutes later. However, she said, by the time the noose was removed, Rocky was allegedly already dead.
Rohini said she hoped the findings of the investigation would clarify what actually happened on the day and ensure justice is upheld.
Earlier, a pet dog known as Rocky was reported to have died during a stray dog catching operation carried out by MBDK with the cooperation of residents in Taman Teluk Gedung Indah, Port Klang, at 10.50pm on July 29.
