PKR to hold post-mortem on Johor, Negeri Sembilan state polls at annual congress

PUTRAJAYA – Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will conduct a post-mortem on the results of the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections at its annual congress next weekend.

PKR communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the matter was expected to be among the issues raised by delegates from Johor and Negeri Sembilan, allowing them to reflect on and draw lessons from both polls.

He said the aspects likely to be examined include party machinery, the division of tasks and candidate preparation, apart from possible findings relating to government policy that delegates may put forward.

"And what action needs to be taken internally within the party, that is the first — whether in terms of machinery, in terms of tasks, in terms of candidate preparation and so on, besides whether any action needs to be taken on government policy.

"For example, there may be findings that will be raised by delegates at the congress," he told the weekly post-Cabinet press conference here today. (Quotes translated from Malay.)

The media had earlier reported that the PKR annual congress, originally scheduled for June at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, was postponed to Aug 14-16 to allow the party to focus on preparations for the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

Fahmi said the congress was important for the party not only for self-reflection but also to draw lessons from developments throughout the two state elections.

"Certainly the first purpose of this annual congress is to meet the requirements of the Registrar of Societies in terms of order based on the party constitution. What may have been witnessed is not only for self-reflection, taking lessons (but) learning from what has happened in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections," he said.
