PM hopes ABIM remains a torch for the ummah's struggle

PETALING JAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed hope that the Malaysian Muslim Youth Movement (ABIM) will continue to be a torch for the struggle of the ummah by holding firmly to the values of dakwah, education and humanity, as the organisation marks its 55th anniversary.

In a Facebook post today, he said ABIM was not merely an Islamic youth organisation, but a student and dakwah movement with the identity of a harakah Islamiah.

"At the age of 55, it is not merely a count of years, but a line of struggle written with sacrifice, decorum, moral character and faith," he said in remarks translated from Malay.

Anwar described the voice of dakwah as something greater than sermons delivered from the pulpit.

"The voice of dakwah is not merely a voice on the pulpit, but a pulse that gives life to the ummah; caring for the mustadh'afin (the oppressed), educating generations, elevating human dignity and lighting the torch of struggle in an age often darkened by confusion," he said.

At 55, he said, ABIM was hoped to remain a tree whose roots grip values firmly, standing strong against storms, with branches that continue to shade the ummah.
