KANGAR – A 17-year-old girl was found to have been promoting sex services through the MiChat application, police investigations have revealed.
The discovery followed the case of a man remanded for a week until Aug 11 to assist investigations into a sexual offence case involving the teenager.
The activity was detected when the teenager was questioned by a team from the D7 Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the Perlis police contingent headquarters on July 24.
Kangar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said statements taken showed the teenager, who has not attended school since 2020, admitted using the app to look for customers.
"Through the application, the victim revealed that she first got to know a 34-year-old man in early June," he said.
"The victim, who promoted herself on the application, also admitted that she had intimate relations with the man for the first time at a hotel on July 19, at about 4am."
Earlier, the remand order against the 34-year-old man was issued by Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor to allow investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (SOACA) 2017.
Yusharifuddin said the teenager was also taken to the One Stop Crisis Centre (OSCC) at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) in Kangar on July 27, and the medical report confirmed physical tearing.
"For now, the teenager has been placed at a shelter home in the Penang area and investigations are being carried out under Section 14(a) of SOACA 2017," he said.
