Tabung Haji RCI: MACC resumes questioning of ex-CFO for over seven hours

PETALING JAYA – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today resumed recording the statement of the former chief financial officer (CFO) of a company owned by a statutory body, as part of an investigation into alleged abuse of power in the purchase of shares in two plantation companies worth about RM370 million.
The questioning was conducted at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya and lasted more than seven hours.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the former senior officer arrived at the headquarters at about 10am.
“His statement recording on the third day was completed at about 5.30pm and it will continue tomorrow for a fourth day,” he said.
Media had earlier reported that a former chief executive officer (CEO) and the former CFO of the company owned by a statutory body were detained by the MACC following investigations into the report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
The two individuals, aged 68 and 60, were detained on suspicion of abusing their power in the process of purchasing shares in the two plantation companies valued at RM370 million.
The suspects were, however, released the night before on health grounds, although the recording of statements continued.
Abd Halim said the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
