RON97, unsubsidised RON95 and diesel down five sen

PETALING JAYA – The retail prices of RON97 petrol, unsubsidised RON95 and unsubsidised diesel have each been reduced by five sen per litre for the period of Aug 6 to 12.

The Finance Ministry (MOF) said the new prices were set based on the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM) formula.

RON97 is now sold at RM4.35 per litre, down from RM4.40, while unsubsidised RON95 falls from RM3.82 to RM3.77 per litre.

"Unsubsidised diesel is set at RM4.57 per litre compared to RM4.62 previously," it said in a statement today.

The ministry said that although Brent crude crossed US$90 per barrel last week, a decline towards the end of the APM calculation period led to lower unsubsidised petroleum product prices.

It added that continued geopolitical uncertainty — including peace efforts that shift from day to day — was still causing significant volatility in the global oil market.

"The petroleum market remains sensitive to the risk of supply disruption should major shipping routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, be affected by escalating conflict.

"As long as the conflict remains without a final resolution, petroleum product prices are expected to remain constrained by global market uncertainty," it said.

Subsidised prices unchanged

RON95 under Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) is maintained at RM1.99 per litre, while diesel under Budi Madani Diesel stays at RM2.10 per litre.

Petrol under the Subsidised Petrol Control System (SKPS) remains at RM2.05 per litre, while diesel under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) is set at RM2.15 per litre.

MOF said eligible Malaysians may continue to purchase subsidised RON95 and diesel using their MyKad, subject to eligibility and their respective monthly balances.

The government also urged the public to use fuel prudently by planning journeys more efficiently and cutting unnecessary trips.

"Such measures can help ease pressure on national supply as well as subsidy spending," it said.
