Sanusi to serve letter of demand on Nga over 'Tanah Melayu' speech

ALOR SETAR: Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor will serve a letter of demand (LOD) on Nga Kor Ming over statements made in relation to his 'Tanah Melayu' speech.

He said the legal action, taken through his lawyer, also targets former Skudai assemblyman Marina Ibrahim and a social media user, Salim Abdul Rahman.

All three have been given seven days to apologise publicly over the statements they made, he said.

"The LOD is being handled by my lawyer and it is ready. If it is not served today, it will be served tomorrow.

"In the LOD, we give them seven days to apologise. They must contact my lawyer, failing which we will proceed with court action," he said after chairing a state executive council meeting.

Sanusi said the action was taken because the statements by those involved allegedly embellished and distorted the true meaning of his speech for certain interests.

He also said he had completed giving his statement to police from the Negeri Sembilan and Kedah contingents in Alor Setar over the matter.

"Everything is clear and based on facts. The process was short because there is nothing to hide," he said.

Previously, Sanusi, through his lawyer Mohd Faizi Che Abu, served an LOD on Selangor PKR election director Dr N Sathia Prakash over alleged defamation.

In a ceramah last month, Sanusi was reported to have said: "The Malays only have this Tanah Melayu. Indians have India, the Chinese have China, Cambodians have Cambodia, the Siamese have Thailand. Where are the Malays? The Malays are only here." (Translated from Malay.)

Sanusi, however, denied that the statement was meant to question the citizenship or rights of Malaysians of Chinese and Indian descent.
