JOHOR BAHRU – The government is carrying out seven development and infrastructure upgrading projects at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) here, with allocations totalling RM1.14 billion.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the projects were aimed at strengthening services at the public hospital, in line with the aim of making HSA the state's main referral treatment hub.

He said the works cover the development of a day-care treatment centre and specialist clinic complex, upgrades to electrical and mechanical systems, the replacement and modernisation of lifts, medical gas systems, a neurosurgical suite and pathology laboratory facilities.

"One of the main focuses is the construction of three new operating theatres to allow upgrading works on the 12 existing theatres to be carried out. Once completed, HSA Johor Bahru will have 15 brand-new operating theatres.

"The construction of the three new theatres will cost RM20.7 million. This step is taken to ensure infrastructure upgrading can be carried out while minimising disruption of services to patients," he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after an official working visit to the hospital today. Also present was Johor Health Director Dr Mohtar Pungut.

New block and multi-storey car park

Commenting on the allocation for a new block and multi-storey car park at the hospital announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on 3 September 2023, Akmal Nasrullah said the project was among the seven being undertaken by the government at HSA.

"The multi-storey car park project is part of the day-care treatment centre and specialist clinic complex project, which will be implemented as early as next year, involving an allocation of RM877.54 million.

"At present, the Letter of Acceptance for the project is expected to be issued next year," he said.

613 projects across Johor

Akmal Nasrullah, who is also the Johor Bahru Member of Parliament, said 613 development programmes and projects are being implemented by the government across Johor, involving allocations totalling RM56.12 billion.

"Of that number, 154 are new projects while 459 are continuing projects. As at the 27th, RM2.5 billion or 50.51 per cent of the RM4.95 billion allocation for development projects in the state this year has been spent," he said.
