Cobra found with kitchen knife piercing through its stomach

JAKARTA – A cobra was found in severe distress after it swallowed a kitchen knife, with the tip of the blade piercing through its stomach, news portal detikjabar reported.

The unusual case occurred at a resident's house in Sroyo village, Central Java, Indonesia.

The snake was discovered by volunteers from Exalos Indonesia after they received a report of a snake at the home of a resident named Sigit early yesterday morning.

When the volunteers arrived at the location at about 9am local time, the reptile was hiding inside a hole.

Exalos Indonesia volunteer Kamto said they found the one-metre-long cobra in hiding, with only its tail visible.

"While trying to pull it out using tongs, I found the snake difficult to remove because there was an object stuck. After it was pulled out, we were shocked to see a sharp object, which turned out to be a kitchen knife, piercing through the snake's stomach," he said, in remarks translated from Malay.

The knife was confirmed to belong to the homeowner, who had reported it missing several days earlier.

Based on the position of the blade, which was facing upwards, the snake is believed to have swallowed the handle of the knife first.

Although the knife was successfully removed, the cobra had to be put down to prevent it from suffering further from its severe injuries. – AGENCY
