TANJUNG MALIM: Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is planning to open the first private hospital here to cater to the growing healthcare needs of its international students and staff.
UPSI vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff said the move was part of the university's strategic planning to provide support facilities in line with current developments and community needs.
"UPSI is currently assessing the potential for cooperation with private hospitals, including studying a suitable business model to realise this aspiration.
"We are trying to get any private hospital or private specialist hospital to operate in Tanjung Malim or on our land in UPSI. We are looking at how the business model concept would work," he said at UPSI's Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah Campus here today.
He said the plan was in line with future needs as UPSI and Tanjung Malim continue to grow as an education hub and a community increasingly in need of quality support facilities.
Md Amin added that UPSI also has a long-term aspiration to develop retirement facilities in Tanjung Malim, allowing retired members of the university community to stay connected with the campus.
