MUAR – A 78-year-old man's plan to head out for breakfast ended in tragedy when he was found dead on a walkway at a car park in front of a premises along Jalan Meriam here this morning.

The man is believed to have died at the spot before members of the public came across his body at about 8.30am.

Muar district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said initial investigations found that the man had been a resident of an elderly care centre in the district since 2024.

"According to the management of the care centre, the victim would usually walk to the Bentayan area for breakfast.

"However, of late he had frequently complained of dizziness and also had a history of chronic illness," he said in a statement today. (Quotes translated from Malay.)

He said preliminary checks at the scene and on the body found no external injuries, criminal element or signs of a struggle.

Further examination by a forensic medical officer at Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah likewise found no criminal element or suspicious injuries on the body, he added.

"The cause of death is believed to be related to complications from lung disease," he said.

Based on the findings of the investigation and the forensic examination, Raiz Mukhliz said police have classified the case as a Sudden Death Report (SDR).
