Device charging fires cost Malaysia RM14.2 million since 2023, with Sarawak bearing bulk of losses
Malaysia's fire department has documented 59 home fires caused by unsafe device charging practices between 2023 and 2025, resulting in RM14.2 million in losses. Sarawak accounted for nearly 68% of total losses, with investigators identifying common risky behaviours including overnight charging and use of uncertified accessories.
